Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a popular immigration program that provides a pathway for skilled foreign workers who have gained Canadian work experience to become permanent residents of Canada. The CEC is part of the Express Entry system, which is an online application management system used by the Canadian government to process applications for permanent residency.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the CEC, an applicant must meet the following criteria:city skyline under gray cloudy sky during daytime

  • They must have at least one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience in Canada within the last three years before submitting their application.
  • They must have gained this work experience legally while holding a valid work permit, which was obtained through one of the following programs: the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, the International Mobility Program, or the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program.
  • They must meet the minimum language proficiency requirements in either English or French, which are determined by standardized language tests.
  • They must have plans to live outside of the province of Quebec.

Application Process:

The CEC application process is divided into two stages. In the first stage, an applicant creates an online profile and provides information about their skills, education, language proficiency, work experience, and other factors. Based on this information, the Express Entry system assigns a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score to each applicant, which determines their rank in the Express Entry pool.

In the second stage, applicants who receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency through the Express Entry system must submit a complete application, including all the necessary documents and fees, within 90 days.

Benefits of the Canadian Experience Class:

The Canadian Experience Class is an attractive immigration pathway for skilled foreign workers who have gained Canadian work experience. The benefits of the CEC include:

  • Having a competitive edge in the Express Entry system due to having Canadian work experience, which can increase the chances of receiving an ITA.
  • Being able to apply for permanent residency while still living and working in Canada.
  • Having a lower language proficiency requirement compared to other immigration pathways, such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program.
