Federal Skilled Worker Program
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a highly popular immigration pathway for skilled workers who want to move to Canada. As an immigration consultant, it's essential to be well-versed in the FSWP's requirements and processes to help your clients achieve their immigration goals and successfully apply for permanent residency in Canada.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the FSWP, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
- They must have at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time skilled work experience in a National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill type 0, A, or B within the last ten years.
- They must meet the minimum language proficiency requirements in either English or French, which are determined by standardized language tests.
- They must have completed a Canadian secondary or post-secondary educational credential, or have an equivalent foreign educational credential assessed by a designated organization.
- They must meet the minimum requirements for skilled work experience, language proficiency, education, and other factors under the FSWP selection factors.
Selection Factors:
The FSWP uses a points-based system to evaluate candidates based on the following selection factors:
- Language proficiency in English or French
- Education
- Work experience
- Age
- Arranged employment in Canada
- Adaptability factors, such as spousal language proficiency or Canadian education or work experience.
An applicant must score at least 67 points out of 100 points to be eligible for the FSWP.
Application Process:
The FSWP application process consists of two stages. In the first stage, an applicant creates an online profile and provides information about their skills, education, language proficiency, work experience, and other factors. Based on this information, the Express Entry system assigns a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score to each applicant, which determines their rank in the Express Entry pool.
In the second stage, applicants who receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency through the Express Entry system must submit a complete application, including all the necessary documents and fees, within 90 days.
The Canadian government aims to process a complete FSWP application within six months.
